Choosing a Room for Your PEMF Session

A three-panel mat laid on a timber floor in a study corner with a bookshelf, a plant and a chair with a blue seat

This post covers setting up a room at home for a PEMF session: choosing the room, where the mat or pad sits, how to lay out the cables and the machine, and how to keep interruptions away.

Choose an uncluttered room with space for your system

Pick a room where you have space to lie or sit for the whole session. Clear the floor or the chair first, so nothing is in your way. PEMF systems range from portable units to larger ones, so choose the room for the system you own.

To me, the right room is the one where the system can stay set up between sessions.

Decide where the mat or pad sits

Put a mat where you can lie down on it. Put a pad on a chair where you can lean back against it. Where exactly it goes depends on the system, so check the maker’s guide.

Once you find a spot that works, use the same one each time.

Set out the cables and the machine as the maker describes

Follow the maker’s instructions for assembly and connection. Run the cable along a wall or the edge of the mat, away from the walkway. Read the guide for a first setting before you get into position, then switch the system on and settle in.

Keep interruptions away

The length of a session depends on the system and the maker’s instructions, so check it first. Then book a slot a little longer than the session.

Tell the people you live with when the session runs. Set your phone aside for the time it takes.

Set the light and temperature to suit you

Choose a light level and a room temperature that feel comfortable. A few other details:

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Have a glass of water within reach.
  • If you feel uncomfortable at any point, stop the session and check your position and the setting.

Who should check first

PEMF is generally considered safe, and some users may experience temporary mild discomfort. Do not use a system if you have epilepsy, if you are pregnant or if you have certain implants. If you are unsure whether any of these apply to you, ask your doctor before your first session.
