PEMF and Everyday Movement

A PEMF session is a still block of time, and the rest of your day is movement. This post is about fitting the two together: where a session sits next to the walking, stretching and exercise you already do.

What a session involves

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. A PEMF system is a non-invasive wellness system for everyday use. It sends low-level electromagnetic fields while you sit or lie near it, and you switch it on and let it run for the length of the session.

Most systems can be adjusted for intensity, frequency and duration. The length of a session depends on the system and the maker’s instructions, so settle it before you plan your day around it.

Give the session a fixed slot

To me, the best time is the one you will still use in a month. A session at the same point each day, such as after breakfast or once the house is quiet, is easier to keep than one squeezed in whenever there is a gap. A home system makes this simpler, because there is no travel to fit in.

Check the length first. Then pick a slot a little longer than the session, so you are not watching the clock.

Place it either side of moving

A session can come before a walk or a stretch, or after one. Try each order for a week and keep the one that suits your day.

Alongside what you already do

A session complements routines like yoga, meditation or mindfulness, and it sits alongside regular exercise and a balanced diet. It is one part of a wider routine and does not take the place of the movement in your day.

Staying comfortable

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Have a glass of water within reach.

If you are uncomfortable, stop and adjust the setting or your position before you carry on.

Who should not use PEMF

PEMF is generally considered safe, but some users may experience temporary mild discomfort. Do not use it if you have epilepsy, if you are pregnant or if you have certain implants. If you are unsure whether any of these apply to you, ask your doctor before your first session.

If you use a home system, check with a professional that you are setting it up the right way.
